The Game of Paintball

Paintball is a sport like no other! Why? For starters, you can shoot your friends, family and coworkers (that's right, I said coworkers) and get away with it! The rush you get from paintball is like no other; hunting down your opponents or invading enemy bases and forts, gives paintballers challenges and experiences that are truly unique to our sport. Yes, paintball is a sport and there are several professional paintball leagues in the United States, and others all over the world. Like other sports, paintball is not just a physical game but a strategic one, where strategy and outplaying your opponent will carry much farther that physical strength or firepower. Another unique trait about paintball is that every playing field is different, offerring it's own set of advantages and challenges from tournament style speedball, to players favorite; hyperball, and let's not forget the legendary Alamo! So come out and join the 10 million people who play paintball in the U.S. every year and we'll see you at Alamo!

What is Paintball?

Paintball is one of the fastest growing extreme sports in the world…now the third largest! Nearly as many people play paintball as played baseball in the US last year! Paintball is a safe, environmentally friendly team sport, where differences in size, gender, age and athletic ability are eliminated by the paintball marker! Regardless of how fancy and expensive, all markers at use at our fields are either pumps, or semi-automatics (no full auto, burst, or Response Trigger modes allowed), and all markers are set at a maximum velocity of 285 feet per second. (The international safety limit is 300 fps).

Paintball is a cross between tag, chess, and a water balloon fight. It is about strategy, timing, teamwork, and most importantly…fun!

There are three basic styles of paintball games:

1. Rec Ball (Recreational Paintball or Woods Ball): This is the roots of paintball. Played in the woods, players form teams that capture and hang flags, or focus on eliminating the other team. Depending on the specific game played, the size of the field, and number of players, games usually run 15 minutes to 1 hour. Work as a team, or as an individual. This is a great way to get started in paintball, and many feel it is the only way to play!

Camo and dark clothing is recommended.

2. Speedball (Arena Ball, Hyper Ball, X-Ball ©, are all variations on a similar theme): These games are a lot like stepping into a high action video game, and happen on a much smaller field than woods ball; 100’x180’ is typical, with man-made bunkers to hide behind. Shooting fast, moving quick, getting the angles, and working as a team, are key elements in this game. This game is faster and more intense than hockey or basketball. Players often ware bright colored jerseys and have brightly colored-flashy markers with motorized hoppers. Their gear is often covered with stickers and patches boasting their favorite manufacturer’s logos and brands. These games typically run 30 seconds to 5 minutes. It is intense, thrilling, fast-paced, and real test of your skills.

3. Scenario Games: These games are like giant role-playing dramas. Past, present, and fictional situations and themes are recreated on large paintball fields. Teams earn points by completing secret missions (or stopping the mission of the opposing team). There are usually generals, spies, and mercenaries. Some scenario games run most of a day, some run for 36+ hours straight. It is a great escape for those who want to live in a challenging, strategic, make-believe world for a day. Players often dress up in special costumes to really get into the role playing.
